Matt’s Thoughts

After watching the video review, it sounds like a healthy player base is going to be Beyond the Wire’s biggest hurdle in staying alive. There are a lot of indie multiplayer shooters out there competing with much larger companies’ games like Call of Duty and Fortnite, which take up a great deal of the shooter fanbase. This is a truly unfortunate reality for many titles out there, as indie studios don’t have the marketing budgets to get ahead of huge AAA titles and in the same vein will always struggle with obtaining relevant licenses (ie Marvel skins in Fortnite) which draw in players from other fandoms. I hope that well-built shooters like Beyond the Wire can keep their player bases high enough to keep supporting their games – the more studios involved with online shooters can only bring healthy competition, and therefore innovation to the shooter genre.
